The 13th Annual Shark Bait Swim, held on Sunday, April 23, 2017, was a resounding success. This year, 94 swimmers from 8 local Antiguan swim clubs, as well as homeowners and guests of Jumby Bay, A Rosewood Resort participated in the challenging event to support the Jumby Bay Fund and the Antiguan community.
Swimmers ranging in age from 7 years up, took on the 3-kilometer swim from Jumby Bay Island to mainland Antigua. Top honors went to Sebastian Gobinet, last year’s runner up, with an outstanding time of 41 minutes and 47 seconds. Second place went Sam Pearson with a time of 47 minutes and 33 seconds, and Vernon Osbourne took third place with a time of 48 minutes and 37 seconds.
This year the event raised a total of $227,500. All proceeds from the event are allocated across various philanthropic organizations and community projects in Antigua.
